Yori Restaurant London, A Review.

Monday, 31 March 2014

Last Saturday after the K-Pop Academy class, a bunch of us decided to head over to Yori for an early dinner. One of the main reasons I decided to join in (aside from the fact that I can never say no to Korean food) was because someone mentioned earlier that they serve Cheese ddeobokki (Rice cake and fish cake in sweet red chilli sauce). I was excited about that cos I love me some ddeokbokki and a cheesy one sounds heavenly (and it was).

We got to the restaurant early for dinner, but they were already a few customers eating and they were all Koreans. That is usually a good sign, one thing my food exploration has taught me is when the people local to the cuisine frequent a restaurant, then it has a good and authentic taste (Take note of that :). We were greeted by the friendly waiter whom I later found knew one of the girls in our group, She was really easy-going which I really appreciate in staffs at a restaurant.

Here's what we ordered....

KPop Academy Week 5 Assignment: Shadows in the palace Review.

Friday, 28 March 2014

For this week's assignment, I chose the option which said to Watch Korean historical film or drama and summarize it in 1 minute. (make video, take photo, drawing, writing).

I decided to watch the historical mystery thriller Shadows in the Palace or  궁녀~Gungnyeo which translates to maid of Honour. The movie depicts the lives of court maids who are referred to as gungnyeo during the Joseon dynasty. It is the first feature film by director Kim Mee-Jung.

KPop Academy Week 5: Korean History and Korean War.

Monday, 24 March 2014

I arrived at the Korean Cultural Centre a good 15 minutes before the class started and was able to chat around with a few people. As expected, the subject of the B.A.P concert and ticket prices came up but like me nobody's got tickets yet. Not sure if I'll be going though. So much for all the excitement of finally attending my first ever KPop concert and having a glimpse of Daehyun.

At 2pm we proceeded to the hall and after a recap of last week and looking at our assignments (My G-Dragon assignment was shown and I said a few words about it), we were introduced to Brigadier Brian Parritt of the British Army. He was there to give us a talk about his experience in the Korean War between 1950-1953. I'll try and tell you guys as much as I remember from the talk.

KPop Academy Week 4 Assignment: Jjajangmyeon Noodles.

Saturday, 22 March 2014

Last week we learnt how to make two korean dishes, so it was fitting for this week's assignment for us to create some korean yumminess, or try to anyways. The task was to choose one of the following:

1. Make Korean food after shopping at a local supermarket.
2. Make your own fusion Korean Food.
(e.g. cheese bulgogi, curry tteokboki...etc)
3. In Korea they have specific food for special occasions.
For example, it is common to eat Mi Yeok guk on Birthdays,
Jan chi guk su at Weddings and Juk when you are sick.
Find out about a specific type of food that is eaten in a certain situation and cook this dish for someone who is in this situation.

KPop Academy Week 4: Korean Cooking Lessons at School of Wok.

Week 4 was all about Korean Food. We went to the

School of Wok  which is located at
61 Chandos Pl,
London WC2N 4HG.

School of Wok is an Asian cookery school,  in case you are interested in learning to make some dishes or you want something fun to do on your birthday or something ( Foodie's will appreciate this I'm sure :). You can check out their website HERE for more details.

When we got there, our name tags were kept on seperate tables which all had a placard with the name of K-Drama's written on them. We were later told that it was because we were divided into groups. I was soo happy to be placed in the Reply 1994 group cos that is like one of my fave K-Drama's.

International Day of Happiness: Brunel University Edition.

Thursday, 20 March 2014

I knew today was going to be International day to celebrate happiness, in fact I have known for a couple of days now. But I didn't think to do anything except maybe post a picture on instagram, i.e until around noon today when the idea to take pictures and video clips came to me. I am a Writer/Blogger who loves laughing and being Happy so i thought it seemed fit to do something meaningful  to mark this day.

Learn Korean with KPop #2: Happy by 2NE1 {HANGEUL+ROMANIZATION+ENGLISH}

Wednesday, 19 March 2014

This series has proven to be successful so I decided to keep up with it. The first one can be read here.

I found the music video of 2NE1's new song HAPPY after watching their other recently released song Come back home. Both songs are from their newly released album Crush. The M/V told the story of lost love in a carefree, cheerful and cute way without losing the hip-hop concept of the group. The video also featured Artwork by Mina Kwon whom I adore. Seriously her Art is inspiring and different. If you know me, you know I like different. Check out the video below....

G-Dragon, A Fashion Icon: kpop Academy week 3 assignment.

Friday, 14 March 2014

The last class was on Korean fashion so this week's assignment theme is on different Asian fashion and hallyu fashion as well. I choose the option that said to write about the most Fashionable KPop artist.

I didn't have to think twice about this one because I immediately knew who I was writing about. Not being biased or anything but I believe that Kwon Jiyong popularly known as G-Dragon is the most fashionable icon in the KPop scene.

KPop Academy Week 3: I wore a Hanbok.

Last Saturday was week 3 of the KPop Academy and we learnt all about Korean Fashion over the years. I was so excited for this class because we were going to try on 한복~Hanbok (Korean traditional attire). It has been on my Korean dream list to wear it and it was finally happening (I might share the list with you guys sometime).

KPop Academy Week 2 Assignment.

Friday, 7 March 2014

In honour of our previous class on Korean Language and Hangul, this weeks assignment was on Korean typography. We were taught how to write our name using calligraphy last week. So the challenge was to come up with cool typography choosing from four options to incorporate it in.

I was already thinking of cool concepts to do and all week long I tried different apps and computer programs but I still wasn't getting the results I wanted. I also realised that my IT skills needs more improving. After numerous failed attempts I decided to do it the old fashioned way, by using Pen and paper. I didn't expect it to take so much time but I managed to finish it just at the nick of time. I present to you my finished project....

Quotes on Destiny from a High-Schooler.

I was having my own special kind of throwback Thursday by going through some old journals from high school and I found this really interesting quotes on Destiny (don't ask what a high-schooler was doing thinking serious shit like this, I have no idea). My first instinct was to share it with you guys cos you know we're now like kinda, sorta, friends in my head
